Cocktail recipeKyrö Malt
Manhattan
Manhattan isn't just a great place to visit – it's also a classic whisky cocktail.
For one drink you need
- 4 clKyrö whisky
- 2 clred vermouth
- 3–4 dashesAngostura bitters
- Lots of ice
How to make it
- Chill a martini glass. Put it in the freezer for a moment, or fill it with ice and a splash of water.
- Then fill a second, larger glass with ice – a pint glass works well. Pour in the whisky, vermouth and bitters.
- Stir with a spoon until the drink is cold. Strain into the chilled martini glass and garnish with a cocktail cherry. Enjoy the big wide world from the comfort of your sofa.
Every good home bar deserves a Manhattan
Tradition says a Manhattan should be made with American rye whiskey. At Kyrö we've always taken the road less travelled, so we dare you to try Finnish rye in one of the six basic drinks listed in David A. Embury's 1948 classic The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks.
Legend has it the Manhattan was invented for a party hosted by Lady Randolph Churchill, Winston Churchill's mother. That story is false: she was pregnant and living in England when the party took place in New York.
History aside, there's a reason the Manhattan is still so appealing after all these years. It's simply delicious, and every respectable bar has it on the menu. Why not make it at home too?
